AJ's Free AAC App "Kite" (Feedback Requested!)

While seeking out experts for this project, we met @ajrupp who is currently building their own free AAC app and has offered their code as a base we could build on top of if desired. We haven’t decided yet exactly what that might look like, but for now…

We would love SLP feedback on AJ’s existing free AAC app Kite.

SLPs, parents, experts–if you have feedback on AJ’s app that could help us design our own, please share it here!

I saw some of the feedback in the other chat and added it to the tool. Here’s what I updated:

  • Real ARASAAC symbols instead of emoji — new buttons default to real symbols, with a one-tap option to convert the whole board.
  • Motor-plan return-to-core — optional setting that jumps back to the home page after each word (like LAMP / TD Snap Motor Plan).
  • CVI mode — black background, high-contrast, minimal color for cortical visual impairment.

Feel free to check it out. To try them: open the link on an iPad or phone, tap the gear (:gear:) icon, PIN is 1234, and you’ll find the CVI and motor-plan toggles in Settings. For symbols, tap Edit and it’ll offer to fetch them.
