Goal: An app that teaches beginning choice-making and touch-screen skills for students with significant communication needs–specifically nonverbal students who are learning to use AAC devices.
- Five levels
- Level 1 (Errorless): One big button with a verbal prompt “touch the dog”. Visually clear (black background, white button).
- If there’s hesitation (5 seconds after audio prompt), make the button highlight/wiggle/emphasize itself.
- On ALL levels, successful touch ends with a ~5 second reinforcement (royalty-free videos/sounds to play–fun sensory stuff)
- Level 2: Two choices side-by-side. Meaningful pictures (“touch the apple”). Randomized left/right being the correct answer. One button has the correct picture and the other is blank.
- Allow teacher to (optionally) choose the topic before game starts; default to a random selection
- On an incorrect tap, highlight (wiggle/etc) the correct button
- Level 3: Two choices side-by-side. Two different pictures (within the same topic). Verbal prompt says “tap the ____”. Same as level 2 but with a distractor image.
- Level 4: Three choices side-by-side for left/right motor planning. Choose the correct option.
- Level 5: Four choices (2x2 grid) for up/down motor planning as well.
- Level 1 (Errorless): One big button with a verbal prompt “touch the dog”. Visually clear (black background, white button).
- Teacher configures & starts the game
- Game goes on indefinitely until teacher closes it
- To get to home, back arrow with prompt that says “type the word home”
- Play screen
- Make the screen as simple as possible during play (avoid touching other things)
- Not a lot of empty space. Buttons fill the full screen.
- Light gray button with image inside the button with a bit of padding.
